poor Puzzle had a lil accident on Monday. I get a phone call at 7am from my yard owner in a panic saying Puzz is very lame and bleeding. So I drag my nan out of bed and get her to drive me down the yard, we get there at about 7.10 and I find Puzz standing tied up on the yard with blood all over he left hind leg. So I call the vet and he comes down, sedates her, shaves her feathers off that leg and then had a look. On first glance it looked like nothing but a tiny scratch, but Puzz was VERY VERY lame she couldnt hardly put the leg on the ground and when she had to walk she nearly fell down with every step. So the vet said it could be a puncture and so he pushes a swab into the hole and it goes in a lot!!! seriously the puncture was about 3/4 inches deep, so now were in a panic as to whether its hit anything major. So vet says shes got to go to the hosp, we get her in the lorry and rush her over there. When we arrive she gets sedated again and poked, prodded, injected and allsorts. Then she has an ultra sound, but there was to much gas in the puncture to see anything. So she has Xrays which was quite cool, i had to wear a lead thingy, but god did my knees hurt from standing up for a good few hours by now. So the xrays show that it has missed the tendon and the tendon sheath by about 1/2 an inch so we were damn lucky cause if it had hit either one the best case scenieiro would have been no more riding the worst case being having her PTS. so we were very lucky it could have been very very nasty. So then the vet stuck a needle in her hock and a tonne of fluid squirts out, they test the fluid and find that she has an infection. Aparently even as little as half hour after they get the cut a pretty nasty infection can begin. The vet then bandaged her up and we put her to bed at the hosp. I went and saw her on Tuesday evening evening and then we picked her up on wednesday. Shes on box rest for at least a week and is hating it already. Shes used to being out 24/7 so being in 24/7 is quite an experience for her but her stable is gigantic, its a foaling stable so its good cause it means she can move around a bit. So now she has to go for a half hour walk inhand in the morning and half hour in the evening. she had her last antibiotic injection on thursday and had her bandage changed, which is already starting to come off but im allowed to cut it off either tomoz or sunday. So shes happy to be home but wishes she was in her field with her mates bless her. So now for piccies me thinks!!
