Guess what Erin did today!

She rode HUNTER. Yay! Ok. ENough 3rd person.

I hung out at the barn all day today (literally... I was there from 8:30 until 5:45). I helped out at horse camp until 12:00, and then my friends and I decided to walk to the country store which is about a 10-15 minute walk. When we got back, my friend's friend who rides at the barn next door came over and said her lesson was cancelled because her trainer went out of town and forgot to tell them, and asked my friend if she wanted to ride. She told me she had another horse I could ride if I wanted to, so I did. We rode for about 45 minutes, and it was fun. I'm going to be sore though... I haven't posted in 2 years, and I haven't posted in a hunter saddle in 5 or 6 years. When I rode Brat, I rode him saddleseat so my legs were used differently and I posted with longer stirrups than I did today. Nicole was laughing at me because when I got on Annie I asked her if my stirrups were short enough, and she was like "Actually they're long." I don't know how you guys do it, I felt like a jockey jk.

SO yeah. It was fun. Then we all went back to my barn because we have couches and the other barn doesn't. About that time 2 of my saddleseat friends got there, so we rode for about 45 minutes. Genius was full of himself today, but he was so much fun. haha.

I'm really burnt now, though, because I forgot to put sunscreen on.... I'm excited though, because I've been wanting to get some sun on my back and I succeeded

I know I"m rambling, but I had to share that I rode hunter today ;D I'm sure my form was far from perfect, but when I said "I probably look awful" Nicole said I actually wasn't doing anything wrong.

I do need a lot of fine tuning, and some lessons in how to ride hunter vs just wondering about my form.

Hahaha, Kim... I do want to turn into one of ya'll... but saddleseat will always be my first true love I definitely want to be an all-around rider though, and I think I could definitely get used to hunt seat.

IT'S SO MUCH EASIER POSTING IN A CLOSE CONTACT THAN IT IS A CUTBACK!! Back when I rode Brat, my legs moved a lot at the trot -- partially because I wasn't as developed as a rider as I am now, but also because it was harder to post in that saddle. Today when I posted, my legs hardly moved. Ahh, knee rolls. <3

Its hard to be an all around english rider. the postitions are soo diff to me. when i ride huntseat i post more foward. when my neighbor comes and helps me with dresage with the new horse, she tells me to post more up and down. its so wierd. im used to the more 2 point postition of huntseat

I'm definitely planning on it to be quite an adjustment, but I really want to do it. I have a deep grasp on saddleseat, and while I don't know everything about it, I do know the ins-and-outs of it from riding it for 5 years. Hunt-seat might not come quickly, but I definitely want to learn it and try it. Thanks for the warning though!! I appreciate it, lol.

I definitely don't agree with that at all.
I ride dressage and do the hunters and equitation and don't have trouble switching over. Once you have a strong leg and seat, you should have no trouble switching between disciplines. The saddle itself will put you in a different position. If you're in a properly fitting dressage saddle with the correct stirrup length, it will sit you more upright. If you are in a properly fitting close contact saddle with the correct stirrup length, it will sit you more forward.

^i agree with rebecca on that.
right now i'm riding dressage style in my CC, and it looks funny, even though i can do it. but it woudl be a TON easier to sit dressage style in a dressage saddle, so i'm seriously considering getting a dressage saddle for her.
but i also agree that it can be difficult to switch over from different styles a lot, but i also think you'd get used to it, so it'd be easier and easier to do it the more you switch over

I love my trainer's dressage saddle, I've only used it once but it was SOOOO comfy! But for me I like my all-purpose, so I don't have to have a million different saddles when I want to switch from doing one thing to another.
