All right guys, I need your help. Tomorrow is the last day of horse camp, and we're looking for something to do. We have a general plan, but I was wondering if you knew of any fun games to do on horseback. One of the girls is definitely a beginner. She has good equitation that she's learned the past couple of weeks, but she's never had lessons so she doesn't have much balance or control. The other girl has been riding for a year or two; I don't know what level I'd classify her as...she's a good rider, but she still has a long way to go. Anyone have any fun games that might work for their levels? (somethign other than egg & spoon or ride-a-buck, please). Even if they're for advanced riders, though, go ahead and post 'em because my friends and I are looking for some fun, competitive games. lol. Thanks guys!

maybe try a treasure hunt kind of thing, although that could get big.. but they have to go around the property that's ridable on and search for stuff? maybe? wouldn't have to be too hard.. or maybe a relay race, and they can only walk/trot. so one person starts at point A, goes to point B where person 2 is, and then they tag person 2 and they go off to the next point..

apple bobbing crepe paper race (two people a peice of crepe paper and they have to get around a course without the paper breaking) flag race (you fill 2 buckets with dirt and get a stick you pick the stick up out of one bucket and put it in the other one that should be at the opposite side of the arena) three legged race (you go down on your horse jump off each of them should put one leg in a sack or feed bag and hop/run back)
mmm... that's all i can think of for now

you could do tag! i've played that before on horseback. its fun. but it has to be only walk trot otherwise it can get out of hand, esspecially with young people. but it REALLY works on getting you to turn your horses good and stuff...

Thanks for the ideas guys! Some of them won't work for the girls, but they sound like a lot of fun and I think I'll try some of 'em!

musical stalls
you set up ground poles in a 3 sided rectangle all next to each other (have enough for one less than the amount of riders there are)... play music, when the music stops, each horse has to have all 4 feet in the "stall" The one that doesn't is out.. and you continue until there is only one winner.

we've played that one at my barn before jessi! it was tons of fun. last year we had a game where we had someone hold our horses, then we had to turn completely around on the horse without getting off.

I've done Around the World before but I've never done it as a game? I actually did it on Dustin for the first time yesterday! ... with a whip in my hand (I forgot I had it). My trainer was like "You're gonna die!" hahaha. Thanks for the suggestions, guys! We ended up doing the flag race. We let the girls choose between a walk & trot (one girl rode Brat) or flat/running walks (for the girl who rode Genius), and when we timed them, it was to beat their own time and not the overall time. The beginner didn't need to worry about competition yet. lol. If you've got anymore good ones, keep 'em coming! Now I'm thinking games for experienced riders for my friends and me.

That does sound like a lot of fun! Can you play it in a standard arena or would it need to be a pasture? My trainer doesn't like us cantering in the pasture because it's uneven & she thinks there are holes. (although I've scouted and I know where the holes are).

you can defnitely play in an arena. if theres room to canter in like.. serpenites around hte middle of the arena, theres definitely room. but its best to start out playing only in a walk/trot/gait until you get comfortable, then move up to canter. and sometimes depending on the horse, its unfair to canter b/c some horses are faster than others hahh
