So I'm thinking of selling...

Kirby : ( It's been a terrible past week, and its made me confront a lot of things about me and kirby

Well, idk If I told you guys this story, but last week I brought him to my school for this community show, and he was so bad, he almost ran over two little kids, and he threw me off and I broke my wrist & jammed all my fingers... then he kicked noe of my friends...basically, I had to call my trianer and ask her to come get me because my teacher told me if I didnt et my horse off the property in 30 minutes I'd be expelled


Needless to say, Iwas shocked by his behavior, embaressed, and overall just very upset with him

Well, I rode him today(I know I know, I shouldnt have with a broken wrist) and we went out on a trail with three other boarders


Well, he was a little sppoky but pretty good, until this one hill...where the other horses started trotting and he took off at a full gallop, bucking and rearing, the whole nine yards


Once I got him under control, ,my wrist was throbbing and to be honest, I was scared to death he'd do it again...

Well then I brought him into the arena, and tried to get him to just do a nice little circle on the canter, and he listened one way fine, and theni turned him aroudn to do the sme circle the other way, and when I asked him for the canter, he refused to turn and ran into the electric tape


...That was the beginning of yet anonther bucking/rearing fit, obviously


So basically...what I'm having to face now is that as much as I love Kirby to death, hes not the right horse for me, he never has been and I doubt he ever will be

It's so hard to just get him to calm down(its not just this week, its been a while) and I never feel like I'm accomplishing anything with him. His gaits are crappy and he hates jumping...hed much rather be out on the trail


I just really dont like riding him at all anymore, I'm not scared of him, I just get really frustrate and feel like its kinda pointless


So, I'm thinking of selling him( only to someone close by and who is willing to keep in VERY close contact with me ) and maybe buying a MADE hunter...


It's just really really hard, cause I do love him to death, and hes my first horse, and even though we dont click under saddle, he's always able to brighten my day...so I don't rerally know what to do : (

What do you guys think...Sell him and get a more made, calmer horse or keep him and just deal?

is sounds like a green horse/rider combo. I think you have two options here. 1. Send him to a trainer/put him into a training program or 2. Sell him
green+green=black and blue

I agree with Rebecca, you'll never get your money back unless you get a competent trainer on his back. Especially if you want to buy a made hunter, those are expensive and not easy to come by horses..

i agree with rebecca and nina..either way your gonna have to get someone on his back, either before you sell him or if your keeping him.

Well , I can still ride him and handle him, its just not fun and I never feel like I'm accomplishing anything

Plus, he wants to do trails and I want to do hunters...so either way, one of us is unhappy

And I am actually not a " green rider " I can control him just fine, he just isn't wanting to do what I want to do so I' don't think were compatible and I just wanted some opinions


And I can actually sell him for about 1k more then I bought him for, because he is a lot healthier now and has a lot more experience in a bunch of different things

Well, it's coming off like that. An exerianced rider can get on a horse they don't get along with and make the ride accomplish somthing. Even if he is healthier, no one's going to want to buy a horse whose sour all around and rears...your going to have to get a competent trainer on him. Just don't ask for opinions if your going to shoot everyone down...

When I was younger I was in a situation like you. I bought a large pony and hated her. She was nasty and having her made me dislike going to the barn. We put the pony in professional training for a month and sold her. We sold her for less than her purchase price, although she was further along in training. We were willing to take our losses and ended up with Emma.

idk if i were i would send im to a trainer becuz
1) the money your going to spend on a new horse that already does hunter will probably be more than getting a trainer/expireienced rider on him.

2) You'll go through the guilt of saying "what if?" like what if kirby could have done it? you would never know unless you give him the chance.

Kirby is young! (if i remember correctly) maybe he doesnt like jumping cause there is something your doing improperly that he doesnt like?? Maybe he is confused at what to do??
I have Gabby with a trainer now to be a hunter and when i jumped her after her being in training for a while she was HORRIBLE. she refused every x-rail there was! (we were only doing x rails at this point) when she did go over it was the wierdest jump. However the trainer i got her could jump her BEAUTIFULLY. Find out it was something i was doing wrong...(holding back, i got so tnese with Nikita going super fast i would get tense with her)
not saying YOUR tense but maybe getting a trainer on will help it. and the same trainer to help you as well.
