I think I just had the worst day of my life...ughh

I woke up this morning and was like sick out of my mind, as I have been for the past FIVE days, yeah, its ridiculous

So no school for me, well I'm just kinda putsing around the house and sleeping and blah blah blah

Well , my step dads at work and my mom went to the MVA to renew her drivers license

I get a voicemail from Kirbys barn basically telling me to come out right away, because he was rearing in his stall this morning and got his foot stuck in between the bars. He got himself undone by rearing and whatnot, but he had BENT the metal bars...

Well I'm freaking out, and I can't reach my mom because you have to turn off cellphones at the MVA

So for two hours, I'm just calling places and people and finally get it arranged that I can move Kirby tomorrow to his new barn, because it's obvioisly unsafe for him to be at his current barn

And I call our usual vet, and theres NO way he can make it out today, even if it is an emergency...wtf

So finally my mom gets home, and we go to the barn around noon-1. I call this other vet place and there like sure, we can be out there in about 30 minutes THANK GOD.

Kirby is in the indoor because he is still freaking out in his stall, and he hobbles over to me and his whole left leg is swollen like a mother and I'm just freaking out because I mean, he just got over being off for a month last week, and now he's lame again and I'm sure its going to be forever until I can ride again and I'm just really worried about him

So the vet comes out, tells me nothings broken, everythings just irritated and he probably pulled a few muscles ... but other then that ,he's fine...thank the lord ya know? It could have been horrible.

But then she sedates him so we can put him back into his stall without him "stall climbing" and it works for a grand total of...5 minutes.

Then he's rearing again and I'm scared he's gonna get caught & flip over again, so I take him out and for like 2 hours just walk him around the indoor

Normally he's fine once the other horses are in and he's not all by himself...but nope, hes STILL freakin. In the end, around 6ish...I just had to leave, there was nothing I could do anymore and I just had to hope he'd calm down a little(However, he was a lot calmer once the other horses were in)

So hopefully tonight goes by uneventfully, and tomorrow he's gonna be let loose in the indoor for the whole day again(hopefully no one wants to ride?)

And then we're gonna ship him out to his new barn after school : (

The vet also gave us 2 sedatives for tomorrow morning during turnout and for trailering, though it's not like those even work on him.

So basically, I Just had a REALLY REALLY bad day, and I'm really hoping he's okay tonight thru tomorrow : (

Aww, I'm so sorry Val. That's brutal! Hopefully he settles in at the new barn alright. Kind of strange that he's so uneasy being in the stall though...

aw val i'm sorry i hope everything works outu is he getting shipped out to the place u were talking about the smaller place? I think thats gonna deff. help being somewhere more clam and smalller

Days like that suck. If his leg was very swollen, did you wrap it overnight? I would have at least put standing wraps on, and if there was heat & no cuts, poultice, or there were cuts I'd sweat (fura-zone) wrap it.

I'm glad your going a more safe barn.

Has Kirby been out in a while? Like in turnout and being ridden? Thats odd that all of a sudden he would become so uneasy in his stall...

Thanks guys...we moved him out the next day, and the vet wrapped his leg and we kept it wrapped for a few days, and then he was fine!

He's still a little on the edge, but is SO much better at this new barn...he has traded in stall rearing for stall door kicking...which I guess is better haha!

The people ar really nice and I even had a 10 year old girl ride him the other day, she let him get kinda quick and let him drop his corners over shoulders, but other than that , he was so good! I was so proud of him : )

I'm really happy this is all over with...I've spent 600 dollars in vet bills this month, and I for one am SO pumped for the warmer weather which will hopefully bring me a calmer horse Haha

well thats good I'm glad you moved outta that other place! have you thought about just pasture board like having him not be in a stall? Well I'm glad people are really nice and not btiches and assholes! hahah I want warmer weather

i'm glad you're liking the new barn at least =] It's good to get a change sometime--it's worth it when you find a much better barn

Yep, he gets about 12 hours a day of turnout

I have thought about field boarding him...but he seems to have really calmed down lately so hopefully come summer he'll be fine in a stall =)
