So, I was meeting a girl I met on an NC message board to trade some horse stuff. We're fairly close in age so we got to talking about horses of course. I start telling her about Belle. She goes "OMG...I KNOW THAT HORSE!" She described Belle perfect...markings and everything, right down to the arrow marking on her forehead. A lady had Belle boarded at her barn. She went on to tell me that they were investigating pain issues in Belle. Apparently she got shipped from OK, and was badly hurt. She JUMPED out the trailer window, and was hanging half out. Broke 2 ribs and I think something else. They left her 5 days no food or water... Which would explain why she gave such a fit to be ridden. But I was kind of an idiot back then and didn't think to have her checked for pain. Well, I'm more educated now. I figured out A LOT of why Belle was how she was, and I suspected pain but I had no idea it was due to all of that, if this horse is the same horse as Belle. But it would explain why Belle was so calm bareback. A saddle probably but her ribs in pain where they had been broken before. But bareback, nothing was tight around here. I don't know anything for sure, I'm waiting for pictures from the girl, but I almost hope it's NOT Belle. My poor girl...

aww what a sin that's a terrible thing to happen to a horse. She must have been very upset to jump from a trailer! I hope everything goes well and she doesn't have any serious injuries that aren't already healed.

Well she is healed I know, because it happened way before I go her...but yeah, I'm sure she WAS upset. They used a STOCK trailer to haul her. Like, for CATTLE and pigs! Good grief, the world is full of idiots.

Seems pretty stupid to me...I mean, obviously, cattle trailer = made for cattle. I have heard of a lot of accidents involving horses and cattle stock trailers. Just doesn't make sense to me!

They're a bit shorter than horse trailers though. If the horse is taller, that's a great way to get him hurt because his head would basically be touching the roof. I don't know, I've just seen so many issues I wouldn't ever use one. But thats me. And hey, just because accidents haven't happened doesn't mean they can't.

Most stock trailers I've seen are higher or the same height as my trailer and my trailers big.

Do I not know what a stock trailer is? I thought they had for the most part, similar dimensions as a regular trailer...

There's all kinds of stock trailers, good stock trailers, bad stock trailers, ugly stock trailers...same with horse trailers. They're fine if they are kept up and serviced right.

well, i guess i'm an idiot then....my horses are hauled in a stock trailer. i have done so for 10 years and never had an accident. we have rubber mats down, and we bed that with sawdust, and so far no problems. And it's a 16 foot stock trailer....I know of lots of horse trailers smaller than that. Oh, and my 17 hand Saddlebred has no problems with the height of the trailer either. She actually prefers that over the regular horse trailer. What's wrong with hauling horses in stock trailers??
