Im so excited... the guy who has been cleaning stalls told my trainer that he has to quit, and as of July 1st he will no longer be workign at the barn. So she asked me if I would work for her from July 1st until I go back to school. I told her yes. So she's paying me to clean stalls and do barn work for 4 hours a day weekdays. Since I already know the horses and the routine, and since Im planning on spending a lot of time at the barn this summer anyway, it's great. Im glad it's a job that will allow me to earn a little savings, not require too much extra gas (I'll just be going a couple extra days a week than what I was originally planning), and will still give me afternoons to hang out with friends. Just thought I'd share

aw that's great. Working at barns can be good. I didn't have the greatest experience with the one I worked at but it wasn't cause of anything I was doing wrong I work at Holiday Inn Express now. I worked there in march and I just got my job back for the summer. I start at the end of this week. Very exciting.

Aww, Im sorry you didn't have the greatest experience, Brooke I'd be afraid of that too, except Im already familiar with the barn and the people. Today when I went out to ride, my trainer told me that if I wanted to ride some I could do that after I turn horses out, before it gets too hot. Then I can start work afterwards. Im glad she mentioned it, because i was gonna ask if I could do that a couple times a week. ;D

Awesome !
I work at my barn over the summer, but unfortunately its for 8 1/2 hours. hahah Which includes 12 stalls, watering, sweeping, taking out trails, and such.
The only good things is when you get a nice tip after an hour trail ride. You get out of the barn to go ride (although youre usually leading beginners) and you have a chance of getting more money ! lol

I'd work more hours if I could, but my trainer can only pay for 20 hours a week. It works out, though, because that will free up afternoons for me, but I'll still be able to spend a lot of time at the barn. Not much happens at my barn, though, outside of lessons. There's only 1 boarder right now, and she's leaving at the end of the summer to go off to school. So I"ll only have 6 stalls, watering, sweeping, scrubbing, and cleaning the "lounge" area. I really don't have enough to do to stretch out for an all-day job. haha. (Other than putting up panels, and everything else that requires multiple people).
The chance to get more money by helping beginners and going on trails sounds like a nice opportunity!
Why do you hate it Rebecca? haha. Not a stall person? ;-)

Aw, crap. My trainer just emailed me and said the guy decided not to take the other job and would like to stay at the barn. She said she would absolutely hate to go back on her commitment to me, but considering the long-term effects and the fact that she cannot pay 2 people, she felt like she should let him keep it. I completely understand, because she'd only have me for 2 months, and he'd be there a lot longer, but Im disappointed that I wont get the extra income. And I don't know where else to look this late in the summer for a job.
